Powerful Virtual Machine Server Backup

NovaBackup now provides agent-less backup & restore of virtual machines from VMware ESX(i) 4.x together with vSphere servers.

Easy selection of Virtual Machines virtual machine. Simply go to the Backup tab of the software. You'll see the VMware node and be able to expand the node. This will show you all the ESX(i) or vSphere servers you have configured in NovaBackup. Then you can click on each ESX(i) or vSphere server node and see the Virtual Machines that are available to backup. Now you can select which of the Virtual Machines should be backed up.

How the backup and restore process works

The backup operation of NovaBackup BE Virtual first contacts the ESX(i) or vSphere server and tells it to snap the Virtual Machine that is being backed up. After that is done NovaBackup then starts to download or stage the Virtual Machine to a temporary location on the machine NovaBackup is installed on. NovaBackup will backup this temporary file to the device that is selected in the backup job and once it completes that it will clean up the temporary file.

System Requirements

You will need NovaBackup installed on a supported operating system. The machine that you install NovaBackup on to needs to have connectivity to either the vSphere server or the ESX(i) server. NovaBackup can be installed on the vSphere server itself if you want. NovaBackup can be installed on a Virtual Machine also. Version 4.0 and 4.1 of ESX(i) and vSphere licensed with the vStorage APIs are the currently supported versions of software that the VMware plug-in for NovaBackup will communicate with. In order to do incremental or differential backups the communication must go through vSphere. The machine that has NovaBackup installed on it also has to have enough local disk space to temporarily hold all the Virtual Machines that you want to backup in one backup job.

NovaBackup Business Essentials General Requirements

System Requirements:
Pentium III or better, 512 MB of RAM minimum, 1,5 GB free hard drive space minimum, Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher, TCP/IP network, additional hard drive space is required for backup to disc and CD/DVD.

Software Requirements:
Windows XP SP3 (32/64 Bit), Windows Vista SP2 (32/64 Bit) Home Basic/Home Premium/Business/Enterprise/Ultimate, Microsoft Windows 7 (32/64 Bit).
Windows Server 2003 SP2 Standard/SBS/Enterprise (32/64 Bit), SQL 2005 SP2 +, SQL 2008 and SQL Express on Windows XP SP2, Windows 2003 SP2 and Windows 2008
Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 on Windows 2003 SP2 and Windows 2008.

Supported Media:
CD-R/W, DVD-R/W, DVD+R/W, External hard drives, USB 1.1 / 2.0, Blu-Ray/Dual Layer, Network storage (SAN, NAS, etc.), FireWire, Tape, PC Card (PCMCIA), * Integrated, independent online storage services or FTP-Server (Backup/Copy/Restore). For Image DR, you must have a bootable CD/DVD Recorder and CD/DVD Media and be running Windows XP, 2003, 2008 or Vista as your operating system.
